Steve Wulf has been a leading voice in sports journalism for over five decades, with an acclaimed career writing for Sports Illustrated, Time Magazine, and ESPN. A graduate of Hamilton College, Steve has covered virtually every major sporting event and interviewed legends such as Reggie Jackson, Joe Montana, and Kobe Bryant. Yet, of all his professional highlights, the most meaningful moments have come from watching his own four children compete in youth sports.
Steve’s commitment to Project New Step Foundation stems from his deep belief that all children—regardless of their background—deserve the chance to participate in sports with dignity, confidence, and joy. For him, providing something as simple as a new pair of sneakers can be the first step toward helping a child feel included, empowered, and inspired.
When he’s not contributing to the publications of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Steve is cheering on the remarkable careers of his children, whom he raised with his late wife, Jane Bachman Wulf—a distinguished journalist in her own right. Their children have all followed paths rooted in sports and storytelling: Bo Wulf hosts Philadelphia Eagles podcasts for All-City Network; John Wulf is Director of Player Development for the Washington Nationals; Elizabeth Wulf serves as an assistant coach for the UConn women’s hockey team; and Eve Wulf produces award-winning sports documentaries for Meadowlark Media, including the Emmy-winning Netflix film The Comeback about the 2004 Red Sox.
Steve Wulf’s life is a testament to the power of sports to shape lives, build confidence, and connect generations. His passion for helping young people gain access to that power continues to drive his work with the Project New Step Foundation.
