New shoes, new confidence, and a celebration for two New York City school communities
Every child deserves to walk into school feeling confident, comfortable, and ready to learn. This November and December, Project New Step Foundation is working to make that a reality for hundreds of students and families in underserved New York City communities, in partnership with Adidas of North America.
Project New Step Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides brand-new sneakers to children in need across New York and Florida, is preparing to deliver free sneakers to two New York City schools: P.S. 82Q, The Hammond School, in Jamaica, Queens, and Liberation Diploma Plus High School in Brooklyn.
At each school, the foundation will hold a “Sneaker Celebration,” where students and families receive brand-new shoes in a joyful, community-centered event. The celebration at The Hammond School is scheduled for Monday, November 23rd. Liberation Diploma Plus High School will hold its celebration during November and December.
P.S. 82Q will also receive free socks for its community.
Why It Matters
For many families, a new pair of sneakers is a luxury. Worn-out or ill-fitting shoes can affect a child’s comfort, health, attendance, and participation in gym class and sports, and they can quietly affect self-esteem. A brand-new pair says to a child: you matter, and we believe in you.
The partnership with Adidas of North America helps make this possible at a meaningful scale, combining the foundation’s community connections with the resources of one of the world’s most recognized athletic brands.
A Community Effort
“This is about more than shoes,” says Steven Binder, founder of Project New Step Foundation. “It’s about dignity, confidence, and showing these students that their community is behind them.”
The foundation extends its thanks to the leadership, teachers, and staff at P.S. 82Q and Liberation Diploma Plus High School for the partnerships, and to Adidas of North America.
